Product Overview

        HPE 874431-001 (disk body model PM1633a) is an early generation but classic and widely validated enterprise NVMe solid-state drive. It belongs to the read intensive model in HPE NVMe product line, designed specifically for HPE ProLiant Gen9 and  Gen10 server platforms, aiming to provide critical upgrades from SAS/SATA to high-performance NVMe storage for these platforms. This hard drive is renowned for its excellent reliability, stability, and deep integration with HPE servers, making it one of the preferred solutions for many enterprises to achieve storage acceleration at that time.

1. Core features and specifications

         Capacity: 920 Gigabytes (GB)

         This is a classic enterprise level capacity point. The available capacity for its users is less than 1TB due to the large amount of Over Previewing (OP) space set in the hard drive firmware for garbage collection, wear leveling, and maintaining long-term stable high performance.

         Interface and Protocol: NVMe 1.1 over PCIe 3.0 x4 Lanes

        During its release period, it provided revolutionary low latency and high bandwidth SSDs with performance far exceeding that of SATA and SAS interfaces of the same period.

        Form Factor: 2.5 inches U.2 (SFF-8639)

       Adopting a standard 2.5-inch hard drive appearance, it can be installed into the server's standard 2.5-inch hot swappable disk slots (requiring the server backplane to support NVMe protocol).

       DWPD (Daily Whole Disk Write Count): Typically 0.7 (within the 5-year warranty period). This means that during the 5-year warranty period, 920GB * 0.7=~644GB of data can be written daily. This clearly defines its applicability to applications with small write volumes.

       NAND flash memory type: MLC or eMLC NAND

       As an earlier model, it adopted MLC (Multi Layer Cell) or eMLC (Enterprise MLC) flash memory, which is more advanced than modern TL flash memory

       End to end data protection: Implement protection mechanisms throughout the entire data path to prevent silent errors during data transmission.

         HPE exclusive firmware and integration: Pre flashed HPE intelligent firmware, deeply integrated with the iLO management engine of HPE ProLiant servers (such as Gen9, Gen10), achieving out of the box compatibility, simplified deployment, and centralized monitoring.         This NVMe SSD is optimized for the following applications on the HPE platform:

Server operating system boot drive: Provides extremely fast system startup and application loading speed, and is one of the best boot disk choices for Gen9/Gen10 servers.

4. Compatibility

         Server Platform: Mainly aimed at HPE Gen9 and early Gen10 servers that require NVMe enabled backplanes.

        For example, HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9, DL380 Gen9, DL160 Gen10 and other models can be supported after configuring the corresponding NVMe backplane upgrade kit.
